Chesapeake Bay and Crabs
When Jim asked where I wanted to go this summer for a short trip, I immediately said, Chesapeake Bay. Why? Because I wanted to eat some Chesapeake Bay crabs.
I had read Nora Roberts’ Chesapeake Bay Saga years ago and remembered how interested I was in seeing that part of the US and eating some Maryland crabs. So we booked a few nights mid-week at the Inn at Haven Harbour in Rock Hall, Maryland and it turned out to be a great trip.
There’s not much open during the week in Rock Hall, but Haven Harbour was a full service marina and we were able to take advantage of its many amenities. We paddle boarded,
right along side the boats.
We kayaked, swam in the bay and the swimming pool, and took bike rides around town when it wasn’t too hot.
And of course, we ate crabs. I wanted the whole experience of having crabs dumped on brown paper at your table and just pounding away on them, picking out the meat. But we didn’t think we could handle the all you can eat option, so we went with a crab pot, filled with all sorts of seafood. It was a lot of work, but even Jim said it was worth the effort.
For three days, we ate mostly seafood.
We found the cutest little bar on the second story of a building at the marina but unfortunately, they were only open on the weekends. So we brought our own drinks and enjoyed the bar all to ourselves, with a wonderful view of the marina.
I called it “Our Bar.”
We even visited a local vineyard in the area and did some wine tasting.
And saw some big, beautiful flowers.
The sunsets off the water were gorgeous.
Nothing more calming than standing at a dock overlooking the water as the sky turns pink and orange and gold, with the sound of the water lapping gently against the boats.
It was a great mini-vacation. We got to play outdoors and on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, ate crabs and enjoyed exploring the area.
So glad we visited Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay.
